2023 Student Action Programs

Our students are our future. They are passionate, capable, informed young people, ready to lead initiatives that support the essential skills of tomorrow - Global Citizenship.

From Malala Yousafzai to Greta Thunberg, we are increasingly seeing that young people are not only willing to take a stand and make a difference in the issues they feel are important, but they are capable of doing so.

Meg's Student Action Programs develop students' knowledge and skills to take action on issues of importance to them in the local to global community. Our programs prepare students to be active Global Citizens.

Students can participate in one of two formats:

One Day Forum

  • These are One Day Sprints for schools that prefer tackling issues in the format of a one day forum.
  • Sprint 1: Diversity and Inclusion Challenges students to find ways to support and promote diversity and inclusivity in their school community.
  • Sprint 2: Tech for Good Challenges students to find ways to use different tech platforms positively to impact their school community and beyond through selected issues.
  • From Grade 5 upwards.

One Year Program

  • Focus is on students (Ambassadors) designing an action project to address an issue or problem in their school community which is implemented across the year and involves regular catch ups.
  • Skill development is scaffolded across the year
    Ambassadors will initially explore and learn about core concepts linked to Global Citizenship to set their projects up for success e.g. The UN’s SDGs, DEJI, and how to lead inclusively.
  • Project management skills are explored and developed including Digital Citizenship and Media Literacy.
  • We offer a Grade 5 & 6 cohort and a Grade 7-10 cohort.

Examples of 2022 Student Projects

Years 5 & 6

  • Identity: Creating a podcast series interviewing students, staff and community about their cultural identity
  • Community Care: Working in partnership with local community organisations for the creation and distribution of meals, clothing and hygiene bags for the local homeless
  • Environmental: Increasing the number of non-invasive flora types and native fauna through students planting and maintaining school gardens and caring for native animals
  • Sustainability: Creating a school wide waste education program, including bringing ‘nude food’ in lunchboxes

Years 7 to 10

  • Inclusivity: Interviewing local community members from diverse backgrounds for a dedicated Youtube channel
  • Wellbeing: Create a social media campaign and blog to address issues of mental health and spread positive mental health messaging
  • Wellbeing: Provide a mental health centre in their school for students to take time out, share messages and inspiration
